Frozen Sections are available on request. They can be booked by phoning 0508 LABTESTS (0508 522 837) then choosing option 4 (special services) and asking for a Frozen Section. You will be connected to the Histology department.

Labtests runs a hub system for Frozen Section specimens. Four permanent cryostats, which produce better quality sections in a shorter time than portable cryostats, are located at Southern Cross North Harbour, Mercy Epsom, Labtest Rooms at 126A Remuera Rd and our Carbine Rd laboratory. Specimens from other Hospitals will be transported by a dedicated Labtests courier to the closest hub.

There is a maximum of three booked frozen sections per day. Additional cases can be discussed with the duty Pathologist. Urgent or non-booked specimens will be transported to our Carbine Rd laboratory.
